Context
At Faurecia, we set out to explore how aftermarket products could better serve professionals in last-mile delivery, transport, and supply chain, spending most of their working hours on the road. Through user research, we uncovered recurring issues of back pain and fatigue impacting both wellbeing and efficiency.
In close collaboration with engineers and drivers, we co-created an IoT enabled massage seat cover to improve comfort and posture during long journeys. A companion mobile app with voice assistant support enabled safe, hands-free operation.
More than a comfort accessory, it became a connected mobility solution tailored to logistics work, earning the German Innovation Award in 2020 for its blend of functionality, scalability, and forward-thinking design.
Long Sitting Hours & Physical Strain – Leads to back pain, obesity, and poor circulation.
Irregular Sleep Patterns & Fatigue– Disrupted sleep due to long shifts and unpredictable schedules.
Poor Nutrition – Limited access to healthy food options while on the road.
High Stress Levels – Pressure from tight deadlines, traffic, and demanding customers.
Exposure to Pollution – Constant exposure to vehicle emissions and long hours causing exhaustion.
Limited Access to Healthcare – Irregular work hours make it hard to schedule medical checkups.
Target Group
Our target customers were mainly from logistics and supply chain industries. Initial research and surveys helped me identify and categorise them into 5 types of users. These individuals worked under strict deadlines and had commitments. Working in these areas they spent long hours behind the wheels and often had little to no time to stretch or change their postures.
